Review of Norene's Healthy Kitchen, January 3, 2008

As a self-described cookbookaholic one thing I look forward to this time of the year is the semi-annual appearance of the new cookbooks on the market. I 'm an admitted cookbook addict and have hundreds of them. I enjoy reading them and have them all over my home.

Since I read cookbooks the way some read novels, I can’t wait to get my hands on the latest ones and to curl up with a cup of tea and a new cookbook, reading and planning the recipes I’m going to try.

The new Fall cookbooks come at the perfect time since the weather is beginning to change and we all seem to be willing to spend more time in the kitchen during the cooler months.  These are some of my new favorites...

Norene’s Healthy Kitchen: - Eat Your Way to Good Health (Whitecap, October 2007), written by my friend and culinary expert Norene Gilletz, is a new cookbook on healthy cooking.

Many of you are familiar with and fans of Norene’s seven other cookbooks including The Food Processor Bible, Healthy Helpings (MeaLeaniYumm) and MicroWays.

Healthier food choices don't always mean that we need to sacrifice flavor for nutrition and Gilletz proves that healthy cooking can be as nutritious as it is delicious in her latest cookbook. Packed with 600 fabulous recipes and color photographs throughout, the pages shine with her passion for healthy kosher meals from around the world. You don’t have to be health or diet conscious or even kosher to enjoy her recipes but they are all compatible with the Weight Watchers and South Beach diets.

The book features a buffet of exciting international flavors, and Norene has been careful to ensure that her recipes' ingredients can be found at local supermarkets. Her friendly voice and culinary expertise make it easy for home cooks to integrate diverse, healthy dishes in their busy lives.

Favorite dishes include: Confetti Vegetable Strudel, Cool as Cucumber Soup, Lox and Bagel Cheese Strata, Spanakopita roll-ups, Chimichurri Chicken, Luscious Lemon Berry Mousse and even one of my recipes, Vidalia Onion Salad.
